Hugo Maguire powers home for first raceday win by five lengths

Promising youngster Hugo Maguire has cruised home by five lengths to win his first race in impressive fashion at Alexandra Park.

The two-year-old bay colt, from the Kyle Marshall Racing stables, overcame an awkward start to take control of the 2200m race with a circuit to go and then won effortlessly to take out the $12,000 event.

Drawn on the second row, trainer/driver Kyle Marshall kept his nerve as the field settled, finding himself three and then four wide as the field of 13 got round the first bend.

Marshall took the initiative, urging Hugo Maguire forward to take up a position outside the race leader.

With 600m to go, he let Hugo Maguire power forward and the result was never in doubt.

The win provided connections with $6,600, taking lifetime earnings to more than $11,000 from his four raceday starts.

At the tote, Hugo Maguire paid $4.40 for the win and $2.00 for the place.
