Perfectly judged drive by Marshall gets trotter up for his maiden victory

posted in: News

A perfectly judged drive by Kyle Marshall helped trotter Dellario to his maiden victory when the gelding recovered from a disastrous start to win at Cambridge Raceway.

Dellario lined up as the fourth favourite with the inside draw for the Have Your Party With Us, Hire A Venue At CR Trot over 2200m.

But he went into an early gallop, dropping a dozen lengths behind the leading group of four.

Marshall steadied the three-year-old and tacked onto the bunch with a lap to go.

At the 400m, he joined the race for the lead but then saw the opportunity to sneak through on the rail, accelerating past the leaders to get home by a neck in a three-way finish with Valegro and Trifolium.

Dellario, trained by Kyle Marshall Racing, is owned by his breeder, Trevor Casey.

The win provided connections with a $4,950 winning stake, taking lifetime earnings to more than $6,200 from his three raceday starts.

At the tote, Dellario paid $5.40 for the win and $2.10 for the place.
